Bacterial Leaf Scorch of Urban Trees

نویسنده

چکیده

Bacterial leaf scorch is caused by Xylella fastidiosa Wells et al. The pathogen causes chronic leaf scorch and decline in elm, oak, sycamore, and maple. X. fastidiosa has a wide host range and is responsible for many other serious diseases including Pierce's disease of grape, phony disease of peach, and citrus variegated chlorosis. Its role in shade tree disorders has only recently been recognized. Many questions regarding X. fastidiosa and its impact on amenity trees, such as mechanism of pathogenesis, methods of transmission, and management strategies await further study.

Bacterial Leaf Scorch of Landscape Trees: What We Know and What We Do Not Know

Xylella fastidiosa has been recognized as a pathogen of landscape trees for over 25 years. Collectively, these diseases are referred to as bacterial leaf scorch (BLS). Arborists, property owners, and communities are now beginning to recognize BLS as a serious threat to the urban forest. Although advances in symptom awareness and diagnostic techniques have enabled arborists to diagnose BLS, ther...

Genome Sequence of a Xylella fastidiosa Strain Causing Sycamore Leaf Scorch Disease in Virginia

Xylella fastidiosa causes bacterial leaf scorch in landscape trees including sycamore. We determined the draft genome of X. fastidiosa strain Sy-Va, isolated in Virginia from a sycamore tree displaying leaf scorch symptoms. The Sy-VA genome contains 2,477,829 bp, and has a G+C content of 51.64 mol%.

Hydraulic disruption and passive migration by a bacterial pathogen in oak tree xylem

Xylella fastidiosa (Xf) is a xylem-limited bacterial pathogen that causes leaf scorch symptoms in numerous plant species in urban, agricultural, and natural ecosystems worldwide. The exact mechanism of hydraulic disruption and systemic colonization of xylem by Xf remains elusive across all host plants. To understand both processes better, the functional and structural characteristics of xylem i...

Genome Sequence of a Xylella fastidiosa Strain Causing Mulberry Leaf Scorch Disease in Maryland

Xylella fastidiosa causes bacterial leaf scorch in landscape trees, including mulberry. We determined the draft genome of the mulberry strain Mul-MD in order to gain a better understanding of the molecular basis of strain divergence, host specificity, nutrient requirements, and pathogenicity, as well as to develop genome-based specific detection methods.

Population Structure of the Bacterial Pathogen Xylella fastidiosa among Street Trees in Washington D.C.

Bacterial leaf scorch, associated with the bacterial pathogen Xylella fastidiosa, is a widely established and problematic disease of landscape ornamentals in Washington D.C. A multi-locus sequence typing analysis was performed using 10 housekeeping loci for X. fastidiosa strains in order to better understand the epidemiology of leaf scorch disease in this municipal environment. Samples were col...
